Whitening

Do you want a beautiful, bright smile?
Do you want to lighten the natural colour of your teeth?
Why not try teeth whitening at Middlesex Implants & Cosmetic Centre.

Teeth whitening can be a highly effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces. It removes stains and discolouration through a process that uses a peroxide-based gel of varying strengths. It is one of the quickest and most immediately noticeable smile makeover techniques. Although it cannot make a complete colour change, it will lighten the existing shade.

Why would I need my teeth whitened?

Teeth can become discoloured for many reasons. This can include drinking tea, coffee, red wine or other food and drink with strong colourings. Another major cause is smoking, which can make the teeth appear yellowed. The ageing process can also cause your teeth to become darker naturally. Tooth decay, fillings and tartar build-up can also contribute to discolouration.

Teeth have nerves and blood vessels inside them. If these nerves and blood vessels are damaged the tooth may become darker - this can happen because of decay, or if the teeth are knocked.

You could have a Scale and polish, or air abrasion, but will only remove surface staining. For veneers and crowns, this involves shaving of tooth enamel but can change shape as well as colour of smile.

Tooth whitening awareness:-
  • Transient tooth sensitivity may develop after treatment but will normally resolve within 24 hours.
  • Temporary inflammation or white spots on your gum or lips may be caused by the whitening procedure. However, this resolves within a few hours and the discomfort is only temporary.
  • Porcelain restorations such as crowns or veneers as well as white fillings will not change colour and may need to be replaced after the whitening procedure.
To maintain your bright smile:-
  • Avoid tobacco, tea, coffee and teeth staining foods such as tomato paste, food colourants and deeply coloured toothpastes and mouthwashes for 2 days after the whitening procedure.
  • Proper oral hygiene must be maintained including regular visits to hygienist in order to maintain optimum whiteness of the teeth.
  • Keep your recall appointments with your dentist.
